Description- There are a variety of methods to help transport and they range from Pony Express to modern delivery services like FedEx and DHL, but there still is a possibility of immense improvement. Also, transportation has contributed largely to the increase of pollution, and in the U.S. alone, 27% of greenhouse gas emissions come from transportation. With the aim to  transform the way goods are transported, Project Wing is an autonomous delivery drone service with the aim to increase access to goods, reduce traffic congestion in cities, and help ease the CO2 emissions attributable to the transportation of goods. They are also working of unmanned traffic traffic management platform which allows aircraft with no human pilots or such to navigate around other drones, manned aircraft, and other obstacles like trees, buildings and power lines.  Their method of transportation would be faster, cheaper and environmentally friendly in comparison to all the available options. They are closely working with industry partners, regulators, and the broader aviation community to create an approachable manner to safely and scalably managing drone traffic in the sky, so the potential of low-altitude airspace can be unlocked.

Interesting Facts:

  • They are fully efficient and their light energy efficient design enables the drones to fly up to 120 km/h, all by an all-electric power system with no carbon emissions.
  • It assures complete safety with their machine learning algorithms that assist the drone in looking for a safe and viable location for delivery amidst all the obstacles like trees, buildings, and power lines.
  • They fly about 400 feet above the ground and deliver packages to a location the size of a doorstep.
  • It would be cheaper compared to all the conventional options.
  • They have already completed their first real-world deliveries in 2014 in rural Queensland, Australia where they successfully transported a first-aid kit, candy bars, dog treats, and water to farmers.
