As Courtney Cox was making people laugh on “Friends,” she was grappling with private tragedies of miscarriages and infertility as she tried having a baby with ex-husband David Arquette, Cox told Dateline in 2004. She underwent two rounds of IVF before becoming pregnant with her daughter, Coco, who is now 14. Cox had several miscarriages before doctors found out that a rare antibody in her blood prevented pregnancies from reaching full term. She tried IVF twice before successfully conceiving her daughter, and was frank about how difficult it was to continue filming a comedic TV show while suffering repeated pregnancy losses.

“I remember one time I just had a miscarriage and Rachel was giving birth,” Cox said in a 2004 interview with Dateline NBC, the year “Friends” ended. “It was like that same time. Oh my God, it was terrible having to be funny.”
